The Program
- ConnectEd: A Conference on Global Education
- Monterey Conference Center
- January 22nd-24th, 2008
ConnectEd: A Conference on Global Education will convene leaders from colleges, universities, corporations, governments, foundations, and NGOs to assess the state of global education through an interactive network of expert speakers, roundtable discussions, panel presentations, and facilitated sessions. Participants will ask, “How does the ever expanding global education marketplace affect universities and their students?” “How might current and future technological innovations shape global education?” “How will transnational issues, such as global warming, be incorporated into global curricular and research initiatives?” “Will English continue to increase its influence as a common language of business and research and what are the implications for non-English speaking universities?” And, “How will universities educate the next generation of global citizens and professionals?”
ConnectEd Format
Plenary Speakers
Renowned experts will speak on thematic topics and engage in a question-and-answer period with participants.
Presentation Panels
Our thanks to Tina Ellison for helping organize and manage the research panel presentations.
There are four types of panel presentations at ConnectEd:
- Roundtables – These are VIP panels moderated for discussion in front of a large audience. Roundtables are 1.5 hrs in duration with audience Question & Answer.
- Research – Papers are presented by 3 or 4 participants in a chaired panel. Sessions are concurrent and are 1.5 hrs, total, with 20 minutes, maximum, allotted to each presenter including the Question & Answer with the audience.
- Showcase Panels – of co-presenters who self-organize as an affinity group showcasing their institutions, projects, models, etc. Showcase panels are 1.5 hours in duration following a 20-minute format for each presenter.
- Student Panels – organized by graduate students or assigned by the conference organizers that highlight new research or showcase projects. A mix of students and conferees is encouraged so that discussion does not occur in a ‘vacuum’ of experience without education consumers.
There is a facilitated working session using Open Space Technology on Wednesday afternoon.
It is a facilitated session for sharing knowledge, ideas and best practices, networking, and identification of emergent issues and opportunities for collaboration.
Open Space Technology (OST) is an approach to organizing purposeful interaction in a meeting or conference. In Open Space meetings participants create and manage their own agenda and form working groups around a central strategic theme or problem.
